3 Ways I Plan A New Month

Planner_Monthly+Planning+Page.jpg

At the beginning of every month, I spend time thinking about what I want to do or accomplish, how I want to feel, plans I have or plans I want to have. I like to keep my monthly planning pretty simple because my daily to do lists are typically quite full.

Planning the month helps me to look ahead. By having a monthly plan, it also helps me to be productive and plan ahead so I have an idea of what to expect. This is also a great tool to use during my monthly review sessions.

Here is a breakdown of the monthly planning that I do at the start of a new month. I also include the monthly review in the Free Printable Planner Bundle for you.

3 Goals for this Month

I keep my monthly goals to 3 because I find that to be the most doable. More than 3 is sometimes too much and my day-to-day tasks can end up endless. 3 is my magic number, but feel free to just keep it to 1 or 2 goals that month.

I also keep this goal specific but not too detailed. For example, a goal for me might be “publish a blog post a week.” It’s specific but it’s not detailed to the point where I’m writing down the date and time every post will be published.

I like keeping the goals specific but general here and then breaking them down during the weekly planning or the day-to-day planning

3 Affirmations

Affirmations changed my life so now I do it every month. It can be the same 3 every month, it can be the same 2 and then 1 different one, it can be all different ones—that’s up to you. But write down 3 affirmations that YOU need to hear, see, and/or remember.

Affirmations, repeated, will help you in ways you don’t even know, which is why I practice this. It has helped me through my healing journey and now it’s a way to keep me in check and remind me of what is.

Blank Calendar

This is a blank calendar. You can fill in the appropriate month and numbers. I have a visual calendar so I can write down important dates and see it all in one place. Here I typically write down birthdays, meetings, appointments, trips, etc.

I’m a visual person so having a visual calendar helps me to see the month as a whole and know what’s coming up.

You can fill this calendar up however you prefer.

Those are the 3 things I do at the start of every month. I keep it simple, and I find it to be affective. You can take this idea and use it in your bullet journal or whatever planning tool you already use. I created this exercise into a printable for you if you want something tangible. You can get it in the Free Printable Planner bundle!

This has helped me and I hope it’s a tool that will help you too!
