I like fashion. I like learning about the history of fashion, the story behind each collection, the missions of differnet fashion brands, the textile, the print, the styling, the trends, the forecasting—basically almost everything that has to do with fashion.

But over the years, I learned that just because I like fashion doesn’t mean I have to buy new clothes all the time. It doesn’t mean I have to wear the latest trend or the “it” product of the season. I’ve learned that I can wear what I like and still like fashion.

I wrote a post on how to find your personal style that you can read here

Today I’m sharing 5 things to remember about fashion trends. Or 5 things to keep in mind when you’re thinking about fomo on the latest fashion trends.

You Don’t have to follow every single new trend

A lot of times you may feel out of place or feel like you’re missing out if you’re not wearing a certain item or styling your clothes a certain way. Over the years, I’ve learned that I don’t need to follow every new trend. I take what works for me, and I leave what doesn’t work. I don’t get hung up about not doing something. Through choosing what makes me feel comfortable, real, and good—I don’t have fomo on fashion. I embrace my style.

Trends Come and Go

Some trends are just straight up outrageous. Those are almost always temporary. There are trends that stay for a decade. Some old trends come back. This is why I think it’s more important to choose what you like and don’t worry about what you don’t like.

Everyone Is Different

There will be trends that people like, but won’t be what you like. There will be trends that other people like, and you will like too. There will be trends people don’t like but you really like. You have your own taste, your own style. You know what makes you feel good & comfortable. Don’t feel pressure to buy a bunch of new things just because they’re “trendy.”

It’s okay to not like something

If you tried a trend and you don’t like it, that’s completely okay! But don’t start bashing other people for liking it. Again, everyone is different. Just because you don’t like a trend doesn’t mean others can’t either. Just because others like a trend doesn’t mean you cannot not like it. It’s okay to not like something.

Choose Comfortable

At the end of the day, I think it’s important to wear what makes you feel comfortable and/or confident. I think I found my style through choosing comfort. Yes, I try new things, but I always come back to evaluate whether it made me feel good and comfortable. There are trends that I like but I’ll never wear because it doesn’t make me feel comfortable, confident, or authentic.

Regardless of whether you consider yourself a trendy person or not, remember that clothes are just clothes. Who you are will define your style, but your style is not who you are.

You are much more than the clothes you wear. You don’t have to have the latest item to feel worthy or important or to fit in. You are enough, and you are whole and worth it and complete.

Clothes, trendy or not, are simply a necessity and a way to accessories your outward appearance. But in the most cliche and over-used words of wise people, it really is what’s on the inside that matters.

With all that said, I hope this post was helpful for you! Don’t feel pressure into getting the latest thing or getting something just because everyone seems to be wearing it. As a fashion blogger, I’m finally at a place where I don’t feel pressure to buy the newest and latest thing. I buy what I like and I buy when I want to.
