Where to Stay in Kyoto | Mercure Kyoto Station
If you plan to visit Kyoto and your itinerary consist of things near city center and you plan to use public transportation, I recommend staying near Kyoto Station. All the trains and buses come through the station.
Aside from the convenience of public transportation, Kyoto Station has plenty of restaurants and shops to check out. There are also a lot of hotels within walking distance of the station. One of the hotels I stayed at near Kyoto Station was the Mercure Kyoto Station hotel, just a seven-minute walk.
Mercure Kyoto Station is part of Accor, one of the world largest hospitality groups. It’s a beautiful hotel with unique decor inspired by Japanese culture. If you’re in the area, definitely check out Mercure.
Quick Rundown:
From the lobby to the individual rooms, the interior is inspired by Japanese history and culture.
There is an Italian restaurant in the hotel open for lunch and dinner.
Hotel has breakfast buffet, which has great food!
Each room comes with robes and slippers.
There are complimentary toiletries for each room ie toothbrush, toothpaste, comb, face towel, and more.
There’s coffee, tea, and water for you to enjoy.
The hotel is also environmentally conscious by implementing appropriate cleaning services and reducing their use of single-use plastic.
More on Mercure:
When you walk in you’ll be greeted with sliding doors, walk inside and you’ll see a wall of blown glass spheres inspired by Japanese origami.
I love the dark moody lighting that is carried throughout the entire hotel.
The staff was super helpful and most of them do speak English.
The check-in counter is to the left when you enter through the front doors. To the right you’ll find a waiting area and then the restaurant.
The restaurant area has Japanese art across the back, inspired by Japanese poems. Walk straight ahead and you’ll find another room with a plant wall. The decoration is truly unique.
After checking in, head to the elevators. In the hallway to the elevator there is a corner decorated with Japanese fabric. It’s beautiful. On the wall there are art pieces showcasing the popular areas of Kyoto.
Back in the lobby, you’ll see a spiraling staircase going downstairs. The staircase leads to the lounge area. The lounge has two parts, one is where people can sit and relax. The other one has tables and seats. This area can be rented out as meeting rooms. When its not being used, the walls open making the lounge one seamless flow.
I love the details that went into the lounge. It was inspired by Japanese music so the tables are shaped like drums. There are décor along the shelves. Very beautiful.
Premiere King Room:
We stayed on the 9th floor and it has a lovely view of Kosho-ji. The room has a large window with an ottoman seat and side table.
The king-size bed has a beautiful wooden frame, each side having its own side table, but these side tables are unique in design.
There is also a TV, though we didn’t use it at all during out stay.
The room came fully stocked with amenities and complimentary toiletries.
Traveling Details:
If you need to ship your luggage to this hotel, they do offer that service here and will hold your luggage for you until check-in.
If you need to leave your luggage before check-in, they hold it for you as well.
All in all, Mercure Kyoto Station made our stay in Kyoto amazing. Though we didn’t get to spend as much time inside as we’d like, it was comfortable and had everything we needed.
I especially love the lounge area in the basement floor. It’s cozy and moody. There are even books you can read, though most of them are in Japanese. It’s a great place to rest or relax for the evening.
If you find yourself in Kyoto, check out Mercure Kyoto Station!
