Heading to Door County for the day or the weekend? There are plenty of things you can do in Door County in the summer. It will be busy so amidst this pandemic, remember to socially distant yourself and wear masks for extra protection.

Last summer, I visited Door County quite often. I felt like every other weekend I was there. But, it was fun nonetheless. If you are planning a day trip or weekend trip there, here are some things you can do.

Zip Lining: Zip Lining Tour Here

I went zip lining with friends at Lakeshore Adventures. If you are a beginner or if you’re afraid of heights or you’re with family, this course is a great course to get your feet into the world of zip lining. There are a few courses here, which is great. You are taken up into the trees which is fun. Highly recommend if you want to do something different or do something outside that’s not water activities.

When we went the Lakeshore Adventure staff were friendly and explained everything thoroughly. They were also willing to take photos of us. They wore masks the entire time and kept everything orderly, which I appreciated.

Hiking:

Door County is a great place to go if you want to hike. There are two state parks there and a handful of county parks. Pick the difficulty level you want and there is a hiking trail option for you. I think hiking is a great way to be in nature, explore, and have fun.

We hiked Eagle Trail at Peninsula State Park. There are other trails available at the park—again it all depends on the difficulty level you want. I recommend using the alltrails.com website. They also have an app. It’s a great resource to gather information about different trails available such as the duration of the hike, length of trail, and difficulty level.

Lavender Field:

If you have time, take the ferry and head on to Washington Island. You get there by driving to the very tip of the Door County peninsula, from there you will get on a ferry that will take you to Washington Island.

It was my first time getting on a ferry, but the workers on the ferry made it easy to get on and get off. Once on the island, it’s pretty easy to navigate around. People often come for the lavender field. It’s definitely a place to check out! It’s beautiful and photos are a must. Head inside to check out their shop too. They have a variety of lavender products including drinks and snacks.

Kayaking/Water Activities:

Because Door County is a peninsula, there are many places you can swim, kayak, canoe, and do other water activities. There are also beaches you can enjoy with friends and family. If there’s a park, there’s probably a beach. Getting into the waters is a way to have fun when you’re in Door County. Definitely enjoy the water activities!

I also enjoy Door County for the variety of local restaurants they have. Whether you want a fancy dine-in or a good sandwich shop, Door County has many food options. (Again, take precautions where necessary).

There are many things you can do in Door County. If you’re with family and friends, considering camping! There are a lot of campgrounds between the county and state parks in the peninsula.

Growing up my family didn’t travel much, not even within the states. Getting the chance to explore the Door County area has definitely been fun and exciting. I love that there are still so many options and things to do there. If you are visit Wisconsin, new to Wisconsin, or a resident looking for something to do, Door County is always a great option.
