5 Wisconsin Hiking Trails to Visit

Last summer I went on a few hikes around the state of Wisconsin. I’m excited to continue this hiking journey. I can’t wait to put more trails on my hiking list! Hiking is fun and challenging and I genuinely enjoy it. Hiking combines both walking and nature, two things I like. With that said, here are some hikes worth checking out if you’re in Wisconsin or visiting Wisconsin.

Meyers Beach Sea Cave Trail

If you’re in the Apostle Islands area, definitely enjoy the Meyers Beach Sea Cave Trail. It costs $5 to get into the park but you can hike, kayak, and/or enjoy the beach. This trail can be quite long but when we went it was only open halfway due to bad weather weeks prior so there was still a lot of clean-up that needed to be done. If you enjoy a good hike, I’d highly recommend this trail. I would say it’s moderate but there are a lot of up and downs. If there is rain or the ground is wet, definitely be cautious. It’s also right along the lake so in certain areas you can look over to see the lake and some of the sea caves.

The Meyers Beach Sea Cave Trail is a beautiful trail. Definitely bring along plenty of water and enjoy the hike.

The half way mark is about 2 miles so a total of about 4 miles there and back. If you want to go further, it’ll be longer. This is not a loop trail.

Things to do in Apostle Islands

Iron Bridge Trail: If you’re looking for a free alternative hike near Bayfield, WI, the Iron Bridge Trail is a free hike trail you can check out. It’s just a couple blocks from downtown. It’s quiet, and it’s a short hike, but you’ll still see beautiful rock formations and beautiful trees. There was one area where you had to go up and down some steps. It’s a good short hike if you’re looking for a simple trail to enjoy.

Trail is less than 1 mile.

Copper State Park Trail

The main trail takes you around the waterfall. It’s a beautiful trail, easy to see the beautiful surroundings. It’s right along the waterfall so you can hear the rushing water. There are stations where you can stop and admire the rapids and the sounds of the waterfall. There are some stairs and bridge crossings, but it’s a fun and family friendly trail. There are even sections where you can walk down to the river—people skipped rocks and walked around in that area.

This trail is a loop trail about 1 mile in total.

Peninsula State Park Eagle Trail

The state park has a lot of trails ranging from easy to difficult. The Eagle Trail is labeled difficult due to some rock formation along the trail, but for the most part it’s a simple hike. It takes you to the caves and right along the lake where you can stop and play with the rocks. The rock formation is definitely worth the hike!

This trail is a loop trail about 2 miles in total.

Kohler-Andre State Park Trail

Another state park along lake Michigan coast located in Sheboygan (aka the Malibu of the Midwest). There are a few trails you can walk through. You get to see the beautiful coast line and the sand dunes. There are small hills and the trails are not completely flat, but it’s an open simple hike and definitely family friendly.

These trails range from less than 1 mile to 2 miles in total.

Devil’s Lake State Park

Devil’s Lake is THE Wisconsin state park to visit. There are a few trails you can take that ranges from easy to difficult. The two well known hiking trails are the West Bluff Trail and East Bluff Trail. If you’re camping here or just hiking, make sure to make a stop by the infamous devils doorway rock structure!

Be prepared for a lot of irregular steps and irregular rock climbings. Other than that, a beautiful hiking trail with a breathtaking view!

There are plenty more awesome beautiful Wisconsin trails. I hope this summer you’ll create time to enjoy nature and these hiking trails. I love discovering new trails and hiking recommended trails. Definitely check out what other trails are available where you live or where you’ll be visiting!

If you’re hiking for the first time, make sure to wear comfortable shoes and dress appropriately. Short easy trails are great because you get the walking and nature usually without the climbs. But like anything, you never know what can happen on a hike and it’s never too much to be prepared.

5 Things I Learned From Hiking

Hiking 101: What I Wear and Pack

Hiking is a great activity for any group of people. It’s also a great activity to do socially distant. I think over the last year hiking and camping has increased because they’re activities that people can do safely and still have a good time.

For me, I’m excited to hiking more challenging trails. Going to Yosemite and the Pacific Northwest are on my dream list and I’m excited for those.

Here’s a post about what I wear and I pack on a hike! Check it out: Hiking 101: What I Wear and Pack
