Where to stay in South of Iceland | Hotels to stay in Iceland
If you’re making your way to or through the south of Iceland, here are a couple places you stop for the night.
South Iceland is absolutely stunning. You will find many of the infamous waterfalls here. The landscape is truly majestic and the glaciers are awe-inspiring.
If you’re planning your Iceland trip, I share a 6-day guide of things to do in Iceland you can read here.
There are plenty of places you can stop for the night. Here are the two places we stayed while visiting South Iceland and I felt they were both wonderful.
NOTE: These are not 5-star hotels. These are guesthouses. They’re both charming with comfy beds and each room has its town bathroom (not shared). The properties of these guesthouses are also jaw-dropping so if you’re looking for a more local experience, check them out!

Restaurant is farm to table
We stayed at this farm guesthouse and the surrounding landscape was absolutely stunning! There were goats, sheep, and chicken. There were mountains and greenery all around. If you’re looking for a place to stay for a night on your visit, do not miss this hotel!
It is a bit of a drive from the main road, but it’s totally worth it!
The guesthouse has a bar and dinner options. The lobby also has couches and a pool table you and enjoy. It’s located near a volcano, so the views are stunning.
Highly recommend walking around the property to admire its beauty.

Gerdi Guesthouse in Reynivellir:
We stayed here for two nights. It’s right by the coast which is beautiful. The land around here is also stunning. It has breakfast and dinner which is also convenient!
If you plan to go to the Glacier lagoon or do the glacier ice cave tour, definitely consider staying here!
The staff is super helpful. The property here is also amazing. Definitely take time to walk around if you plan to stay!
I enjoyed both stays. I felt they were convenient, charming, and the properties were beautiful.
Consider staying here if you’re making your way through south Iceland!
